Peru on your own terms: Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cusco and the Amazon
Eleven days that climb gently into the Andes and end in the Amazon. One night in Lima's Barranco, then straight down into the Sacred Valley for three nights at 2,870 m: Pisac and its Sunday market, Moray, the salt pans of Maras and Ollantaytambo in the evening light. On day five you take the train to km 104 and walk the short Inca Trail through Wiñay Wayna to the Sun Gate, with Machu Picchu below you; the next morning you are back inside at opening with your guide. Three nights in Cusco follow, with a guided half-day, a cooking class and a free day. The last two nights are in a lodge on the Tambopata: caimans by night, macaws at dawn, giant otters on Lake Sandoval if you are lucky.
